about me
My name is Robert Holmes, I am 20 years old and I hail from Lancashire’s most prominent hill, Pendle - the home of my fellow GB team mate, Dave Ryding.
My first experience of skiing was on a family ski holiday in Schladming, Austria at the age of two. Several annual trips followed before I started attending regular ski lessons, and then later race training, at Pendle Ski Club. Summers thereafter were spent competing on various artificial ski slopes, collecting many national titles and awards.
Six years ago I competed in an alpine environment for the first time, and after several successes I was fortunate enough to be offered a place on the Team Evolution Race Programme in Austria. British & English Children's Titles followed, and with these, national selection to represent the GB Childrens Team in the Czech Republic and the ESSKIA ISF Team at L'Aquila, Italy and Chamrousse, France.
My continued development and progression into FIS racing has seen me compete at the 2022 World Junior Championships in Panorama Canada, 2020 Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne, Switzerland, and take part in my first Europa Cup race in Berchtesgaden, Germany.
To assist me in funding my ski career, I have also completed my Snowsport England Instructor and Coaching Licences, which has enabled me to be involved with coaching the next generation of British athletes and learn more about my sport.
I am currently focused on improving my technique, reducing my FIS points and continuing to represent GBR at international races such as this years World Junior Championships in St Anton Austria. The ultimate goal of competing at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina, Italy.
